Trash Island - new fuel source? Exxon will surely be on board, now.

A year or so ago my friend, Sonal Patel, recommended I search for "garbage island" on you tube and take the time to watch the video that showed up in search... I did so and WOW it was freaky!

Road Rules and Hydraulics - the roads are changing, Plattsburgh.

My friend recently copied me on a news item that was very interesting... It seems that the federal department of transportation has made a sea change in how they view the rights of different vehicle / motility.

Why can't our service sort our recycling for us?

So,  I've lived in a number of communities around the country that have provided curb-side recycling.  The best of which is the city, Wooster, OH, which allows one bag no-sort recycling.  One of the biggest gating items I've hear people express regarding their own recycling habits is the need to sort and the strange rules our local recyclers have about different types of plastic that, really, seem the same to me.

Amazing Youth!

As a facebook user, I sometimes get behind in my invitations and ignores (I ignore a lot of stuff).  Today I was revising invitations and was very impressed with the work of the Adirondack Youth Climate Summit group.  If you're a facebook user, you should join, follow and support this group.

Freecycle - Plattsburgh

Recently, I was able to keep my gently used, now wrong sized entertainment center out of a landfill by offering it on Freecycle Plattsburgh.  Freecycle Plattsburgh is a network of over 1,000 people in the local area that agree to receive one email a day (digest) with listings of things people want, have to give, have given or have taken.  The Freecycle "movement" has been around for quite some time and I've never used the solution, but after my recent experience of being able to keep something big out of a landfill, I'm hooked.

Facts about the Fish - Toward a Sustainable Plan

So, you may have read one or the other of my posts about the fish dying after being caught and brought to Plattsburgh for the Tournaments.  Since I didn't know much about the subject, I thought it best to reach out to some people and try to figure out what kind of factual information is known about the Bass (small and large mouth) populations of Lake Champlain, especially the Cumberland Bay  -  around Plattsburgh.  To my surprise, there really isn't a lot know about them.

HMMM...  I said.
